March General Update

Hey there! We know things have been pretty quiet here on the News page outside of our regular annual events, so this news post was put together to let ya'll know what we've been working on & consolidate some changes. We have some general updates for you all, including some gene updates, system changes, and looking to the future, and more. Get comfy, this is a long one.

Gene Updates

After several discussions, we've decided to update some rules around a few genes to better reflect current design rules and bring a few genes in line in function with other similar genes. We've also added some new smaller gene interactions in an official capacity. Below are the listed genes, the changes, and our reasoning for making those changes where applicable, along with the interactions.

Vapor

Vapor can now have an unlimited number of bright colors

This is a big change that was the result of several discussions over time. The admin team has decided to remove the numerical color restrictions on Vapor. We have a few reasons for doing so, including being able to mimic real life nebulae with more accuracy. So if you really like the Rosette Nebula or Eagle Nebula, you could potentially recreate them on your ketucari! The other major reasoning was that functionally, you could already make a lot of colors by layering/mixing the within the 3 color limit as long as the original 3 were distinct somewhere. This bleeds back into the earlier point of being able to mimic various nebulae as a marking. The other major point is that during design approvals, Vapor hasn't been held strictly to the 3 color rule. Hence, we're dropping the limit.

Radiance

Radiance by default now allows for two  colors to be used in the marking

This is to bring it in line with other any color genes such as Vent, and allow for interesting effects with other markings and mutations!

Blaze

Blaze can now cover up to 60% of a ketucari

The 25% minimum is still in place, but the hope is this allows for more design freedom with the gene.

Luster

Luster can now restrict to Fondue

When Fondue was first made, Luster was overlooked as a gene restrictable to Fondue. When this was found we agreed to let Luster restrict to it.

Spotting + Speckling & Spotting + Moonspots

Spotting and speckling may now interact by officially allowing them to overlap each other's sizes when both are present together.

Spotting and Moonspots may now officially form larger clusters of spots when both are present together.

This one is a twofer and was suggested to allow these different spotty/patchy to officially be allowed to overlap and form clusters together. This was already partially allowed in some circumstances, but this makes these interactions official allowances and to cluster to greater extent.

Pale

Pale has gotten an inheritance pass rate bump. Its new base pass rate is now 40%

Darker Than Marking Update

This is something that's been in practice for awhile in design approvals, but wound up poofed from the main design page. Markings that can be darker than the base coat can increase in saturation by a reasonable amount for the base coat. Like it was mentioned before, this has been in practice for awhile and saturation levels will be continued to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Regarding Guides

Not all of these changes have been updated in their relevant guides yet along with getting the rest of the new wanderer gene guides up. We've been busy behind the scenes with several things at once while our admin team has also had a lot of things going on in our personal lives so we've fallen behind in this regard. We'll get these updated ASAP, so keep an eye out. 

These changes are available now for use in designs.

Matchmaker Update

You may have already seen it, but for matchmaker this year we decided to allow players to "rent" a starter or use another player's ketucari with permission for the breeding portion of Matchmaker if they don't have any uploaded ketucari with Breeding Eligibility. We decided to allow this so new players are still able to fully participate in the event.

Some Big System Stuff

We have a few big things we're working on related to the game, and here's a few that we're able to share with you all now.

Lorekeeper Porting

So, if you have a ketucari you've submitted activities for recently who's also uploaded on DeviantArt and our website you may have noticed that their activity comments have been ported over to the site. We've been focusing on ketucari who are actively being used/ played, but we will eventually be porting over all activity threads to the site. This will need to be done by hand and we have quite a few kets with long and storied histories, so it'll be a long project. Once a ketucari's activities have been ported to the site, we will no longer be updating their DeviantArt imports outside of breeding slots.

Regarding breeding slots, they'll be ported over to the site, and we plan on updating both locations when slots are used. This is so that way records are all in one place (the site) while recognizing that not all past written slots are owned by people who are on the site. We do ask that if you're sold/traded/given a slot by someone who doesn't have an account and it's on the ketucari's dA import, to please let admins know in our discord so we can get that information updated.

Database Import Number Updating

If you've been here awhile, you may have heard about our Import Database. This is the reference sheet we use when rolling various activities that has information such as stats and skills. Awhile back import numbers fell behind the number of ketucari that are actually in game, and this was discovered when initially putting ketucari on the site. At the time the focus was on getting all existing ketucari onto the site, so it was left be for the time being. The reason this is important is we need the import ID that your ketucari has in the database when rolling, otherwise it'll pull the wrong stats for a different ketucari. 

This is one of the reasons why we have still required players to link both site imports and DeviantArt imports when submitting activities. With the porting of ketucari activity threads to the site, this need has become more pressing.

What we're doing about this now is going back from the last import ID mismatch in the database between the site and DeviantArt and working back to the oldest ketucari with that mismatch. We're doing it in this order so that way there aren't any issues with the roller trying to pull stats for two different kets with the same ID. 

At this time activities that require the database for rolling are on hold until this update is finished. You may still submit activities, they just won't be rolled until it's done. Quests and skills are unaffected and will be processed as normal.

Players don't need to do anything at this time, but you may inquire how far back we've gotten with IDs if you're curious. We'll make a new announcement when this process is finished. 

Alchemy + Archaeology Crafting Update

Some of you may remember that our Alchemy crafting discipline got a fresh new coat of paint last year, making utilizing it both more acessible and making the crafting process feel more like, well, crafting! We also had an update to the artifact pieces system, so that the different pieces are interchangeable. What this looks like is that pieces 1/X are now the default ones that drop from our loot tables, and for crafting you only need however many of those pieces for that particular item.

As an example, how this looks is that you no longer need Ancient Medallion parts 1/3 + 2/3 + 3/3 to craft an Ancient Medallion. 

For more in depth information on these changes please see the Crafting Rebalance Update news page for these changes. We decided to include this information in this update to catalogue what we've worked on in the last year and for returning players who may not be aware of these changes yet.

Site Shuffling

You may have noticed a few things have been moved into the navigation menus and shuffled around! We're working on getting other parts of the site linked up in the navigation menu. We hope this makes finding key areas easier. If you find any broken links please let us know!

Future System Updates

While we don't have anything we can show here today, we wanted to let you all know that we have some other planned system updates, including what's looking to be a complete overhaul of an existing system. We also have some new additions planned that we're excited to show you all when they're closer to being ready for the game!

You're Talented!

If you've been keeping an eye on the Magic and Skills page you'll see that we've added two new talent skills that'll give you benefits in battles! We have some other things we're preparing for you all, but these are the ones that we're ready to release to the player base.

Beast Tamer

Your ketucari has a chance to pacify a creature during battle, guaranteeing they will take home a pet. (passive skill)

Dodge Roll

Your ketucari has the chance to avoid taking damage if an attack hits during a battle. During a raid the attack does half damage. (passive skill)

Events

There's a couple events coming up, both annual and player driven. Here's a brief rundown of what we're looking forward to.

What a Load of Shift!

This April will see the start to our well loved What a Load of Shift event (WaLoS).

We look forward to seeing you all there if you want to participate, and we hope our new players have fun with our take on an April Fool's event that lasts all month long!

The Gods are Displeased...

We've been keeping an eye on the Zone Status page and it hasn't escaped our notice that the Viridian Tangle and Jordskarn have crossed the 200 point mark for triggering a raid! Whatever ketucari are in the activity that tips the zone over the 250 point mark will gain the Harbinger title...

When this happens we'll make an announcement with the acitivity submission and ketucari that have tipped the zone into a Raid, earning the Harbinger title.

We haven't had a raid in nearly two years now, and we've had some new and returning faces since then. As a quick cliffnotes; when a zone reaches 250 points it will be unavailable to adventure in once the announcement is made and will be marked as closed. The raid event will be prepared on our end, and when it's ready we'll announce the start of the raid and post signups! Feel free to check out the Raids page to get an idea of what prep you may need or want to do to participate!

To Be Announced...

As we mentioned earlier, we have a couple events in the works that aren't raids or our regular annual events. While we can't share too many details with you all, they're bound to be out of this world...

There's been a lot going on since we last had a major news update like this, so we wanted to make this announcement to keep you all in the loop of what we've been working on, new changes that go into effect, and future plans!

The Wanderers

Every month, the group will be raffling off one slot to each of the above ketucari!

 There are no restrictions on the usage of these slots.

 Each slot also comes with a "built in" Sundisk of Nyssa, so that you may breed them with a male or female ketucari. They also do not require a litter guard.

 You may enter once per ketucari, but you may only win one Wanderer slot total for the month.

 Wanderers may be bred together if you happen to collect more than one slot over the course of a few months.

 Wanderers are guaranteed to pass on their new gene(s), regardless of rarity, to at least one cub in the litter in breedings they take part in during the first 6 months that they’re active. New genes will be guaranteed to drop through September.

How to Enter

 Simply create a piece that meets our minimum Group Submission Requirements showing one of your ketucari interacting with the Wanderer who's slot you would like to win!THESE PIECES MAY BE COMMISSIONED.  Collaborations are allowed, but in order to count for all involved parties, each must have a ketucari present in the piece. These pieces can double as any group activity but cannot be used in a second raffle here or in another group.

 Only one Wanderer may be included per piece (ie, you cannot depict all six in one piece and use it as an entry for all of them). However, if collaborating pieces, more than one Wanderer may be included at a rate of One Per Person. However each player may only use one piece to enter for one Wanderer.
-i.e. Players 1, 2 and 3 collab on a piece with Glaecalum, Sethyr, and L'grat. Player 1 can use the piece to enter for Glaecalum, Sethyr, or L'grat., but not all three. Player 2 can do the same, as well as Player 3.

 

Remember that until they're raffled off, Wanderers are group owned. R rated entries and entries that are found to be disrespectful to either the Wanderer or any real life person, collective group of people, or culture, can be refused and rejected. They're allowed to be portrayed as creepy, or as villains if you like, but they Must be portrayed with respect, if only for the sake of the future owners.

 

Entries cannot double-dip into multiple raffles unless stated otherwise. Noted exceptions are the Annual WaLoS Raffle, and the Annual Eros and Firn slot raffles. Any other Event Raffles are a "no" unless stated otherwise.
This includes the raffles and draw to adopts in other species.

This mostly applies to literature, as it's harder to have blatant disrespect in visual mediums. However, as a bit of a rubric for the sorts of things that might ping as disrespectful:

-Non-spoken lines making fun of the character (such as calling them "gross")
-high number of "in character" or spoken lines making fun of the character
-calling them "it" (or any other pronoun) in a way that deprives the character of personhood (some Wanderers may use it/its! Respect that if/when it ocurrs!) (Your character is allowed to be mistaken, please try to be clear this is a character mistake and not an authorial one)
-entries that feel like they were written from a place of Disliking the character (we understand this is subjective, and other factors will be looked at)
-entries using the character as a mouthpiece for any sorts of views that deny other characters (or any people, groups of people, or cultures) personhood and basic dignity
-entries using the character as a vessel to insult other characters, players, admins, or other species
-portraying them as an obvious charicature of any ethnic group.
-uses slurs against them or involves them using slurs.

 

There will be up to 6 total winners, labelled 1-6. Winners will be asked to list the Wanderers they want in order of preference based on which number they have and who they put in entries for (you cannot put in a Sethyr entry and win Alcmene, for example, but if you only entered for Sethyr you get priority on Sethyr).
-i.e. if you are the only person to put in an entry on both Galaeth and Emplisi, you may choose which slot you would prefer to get, instead of receiving Galaeth by default.

-As of Season 5, in the event of low slot turnout players may win multiple slots per month! e.g. if you are the only entrant for Sethyr and Alcemne, you get both slots!

Yearly Import Raffle

Each year, the Wanderers will retire from their journey and seek a permanent residence as new pack members take their place. That means they could even end up with you!


Before we get started we need to establish a few things, however. As the Wanderers are not just fancy imports but characters you all have been developing through the year, we want to make the ownership rules clear.

Wanderers may not be redesigned. Tokens may be added if applicable, and accessories, Elemental Blessings, and new backgrounds can be added, but the actual character cannot be redesigned.

Wanderers may Not be resold for USD.

No Deceasing the import. If you don't want them, gift/trade them to someone else or give them back to the group. Imports returned to the group will not be re-raffled without your approval.

The New Owner may Not change their Wanderer's Attunement without use of the Attunement Shift item.

The New Owner will need to complete their Wanderer's Breeding Eligibility. Their Breeding Comment will be "locked" before they are transferred to their new owner. Slots written by the Matriarchs-Haunt account will not count against the Wanderer's used or total Slots.

The new Owner must be aware that their Wanderer will not keep their built in Guardian or Sun Disk.

If a Wanderer is somehow Unclaimed it will remain group-owned as a starter.

The New Owner must be aware that their Wanderer will maintain their "Starter" status and may be added to lineages as needed.

With that established, here is how

 

How to Enter

UNLIKE with the Slots, you may include up to 3 Wanderers in an entry and it will count for all of them.

There will be up to 6 total winners, labelled 1-6*.  Winners will be asked to list the Wanderers they want in order of preference based on which number they have and who they put in entries for (you cannot put in a Alcmene entry and win Ryven, for example, but if you only entered for Alcmene you get priority on Almene).
*Rolling is done in 3 waves: First we determine if a Wanderer has only one entry, and if so they go to that person, then we determine if that disqualifies anyone from the RNG Process/Leaves another Wanderer with only 1 valid Entry. If there are Wanderers left after this process, RNG is done and the winners are numbered in rolling order to give their preference list.

A player can win more than one Wanderer in the following conditions:

- They are the sole entrant for more than one Wanderer
- There are fewer than 6 total entrants and multiple people entered for multiple Wanderers

- If there is somehow a "leftover" Wanderer who has an entry in, but for whatever reason they didn't go out in the First or Second rolling phase.

 

Reputation System

Starting in 2024, Wanderers will have a Reputation system. What this is, is essentially a reward for commitment towards a given Wanderer. Entering for Slots to that Wanderer will increase your chances of winning Ownership of them if you enter the ownership raffle.

If you have Two entries for slots to any specific Wanderer throughout the year, you can gain +1 entry into the Ownership raffle for that particular Wanderer.

How this works in practice is essentially increased priority over others who Don't have that +1, where if you and one other player both enter for Ryven and no other Wanderer, and no one else entered for Ryven, and you have the +1 and they don't, you're going to be the one to receive Ryven.
If you enter for multiple Wanderers, and we have a year where there's competition for them and we actually need to use the raffle list, your name will be entered twice so you have a higher chance of winning.

Hey guys, I hate to have to do this but the healthcare system in my country is awful and I am frequently, and currently, a very sick individual. Even with health insurance that costs me 400 a month I have wound up almost 7k in medical debt, and with more extensive and complex tests ahead of me that number is just going to grow.

I am dealing with complex neuro/coordination issues and still seeking an answer for them along with a myriad of other already diagnosed issues. Due to these neuro issues I am unable to use my hands very well for complex tasks like drawing. So commissions aren't really an option for me right now.

• An admin will randomly roll which sire and which dam will be used for your litter, then roll the resulting cubs. This is done purely by RNG, which will also be determining the litter size. The parents, as well as the litter itself, will be posted to Breeding Requests and you will be notified once it's up! After that, what you decide to do with the cubs is up to you! Wanderers may not be redesigned. Tokens may be added if applicable, and accessories, Elemental Blessings, and new backgrounds can be added, but the actual character cannot be redesigned.

Wanderers may Not be resold for USD.

No Deceasing the import. If you don't want them, gift/trade them to someone else or give them back to the group. Imports returned to the group will not be re-raffled without your approval.

The New Owner may Not change their Wanderer's Attunement without use of the Attunement Shift item.

The New Owner will need to complete their Wanderer's Breeding Eligibility. Their Breeding Comment will be "locked" before they are transferred to their new owner. Slots written by the Matriarchs-Haunt account will not count against the Wanderer's used or total Slots.

The new Owner must be aware that their Wanderer will not keep their built in Guardian or Sun Disk.

If a Wanderer is somehow Unclaimed it will remain group-owned as a starter.

The New Owner must be aware that their Wanderer will maintain their "Starter" status and may be added to lineages as needed.

With that established, here is how

 

How to Enter
-Open!-

As with the Slot Raffle, you must create a piece that meets our minimum Group Submission Requirements showing one of your ketucari interacting with the Wanderer who's slot you would like to win! THESE PIECES MAY BE COMMISSIONED. Commissioned entries may be used by both Commissioner and Commissionee as long as each has a ket present in the piece. Collaborations are allowed, but in order to count for all involved parties, each must have a ketucari present in the piece. These pieces can double as any group activity but cannot be used in a second raffle here or in another group.

UNLIKE with the Slots, you may include up to 3 Wanderers in an entry and it will count for all of them.

There will be up to 6 total winners, labelled 1-6*.  Winners will be asked to list the Wanderers they want in order of preference based on which number they have and who they put in entries for (you cannot put in a Emplisi entry and win Fiiro, for example, but if you only entered for Fiiro you get priority on Fiiro).
*Rolling is done in 3 waves: First we determine if a Wanderer has only one entry, and if so they go to that person, then we determine if that disqualifies anyone from the RNG Process/Leaves another Wanderer with only 1 valid Entry. If there are Wanderers left after this process, RNG is done and the winners are numbered in rolling order to give their preference list.

A player can win more than one Wanderer in the following conditions:

- They are the sole entrant for more than one Wanderer
- There are fewer than 6 total entrants and multiple people entered for multiple Wanderers

- If there is somehow a "leftover" Wanderer who has an entry in, but for whatever reason they didn't go out in the First or Second rolling phase.

 

Reputation System

Starting in 2024, Wanderers will have a Reputation system. What this is, is essentially a reward for commitment towards a given Wanderer. Entering for Slots to that Wanderer will increase your chances of winning Ownership of them if you enter the ownership raffle.

If you have Two entries for slots to any specific Wanderer throughout the year, you can gain +1 entry into the Ownership raffle for that particular Wanderer.

How this works in practice is essentially increased priority over others who Don't have that +1, where if you and one other player both enter for Draconis Hart and no other Wanderer, and no one else entered for Draconis Hart, and you have the +1 and they don't, you're going to be the one to receive Draconis Hart.
If you enter for multiple Wanderers, and we have a year where there's competition for them and we actually need to use the raffle list, your name will be entered twice so you have a higher chance of winning.

The requirements are simple!

Your minimum requirements are a colored headshot OR 100 words.
The catch? The ketucari CANNOT belong to you. No using Co-owns to get around this.

Your headshots may be sketchy, you may INCLUDE your own ketucari, but the focus should be on the recipient.
To account for this, we asked the lovely Draginraptor to fix up our Gift Art settings! They are now fully searchable, gift writing settings are now actually visible, and you can now set your gift setting en-masse if you want specific default settings!

There's one more catch to your gifts, however, in the spirit of trying to include everyone, and that is: You CANNOT gift to the same person two days in a row.
If you want to spoil your bestie rotten, that's fine! But every other day you have to share the love.
You may also only gift to a Starter once (unless additional Starters are Player-Owned Wanderers).

Hello and welcome to a small Halloween event! It's back again!

Each day, a prompt will appear on this journal with a small prize for its completion! To complete each prompt, you only need to do  a headshot sketch OR 100 words, but if you meet our Minimum Art Requirements, you can also get your piece rolled as an adventure, skill, or other relevant roll! There will not be an additional prize for completing all 7 days, so don't worry if you miss one! However, you will only be able to complete each day's prompt on that day! Some prompts will be returning from last year, and many prizes will be returning!

After entirely too long, the moment you've all been waiting for has arrived... The Orphanage is now live and functioning on ketucari dot com!

With the new digs, there's also some changes. For one: genotypes can now be adopted directly. This should allow for a much larger supply of available ketucari even when admin availability is low. Genotypes play by the same rules as imports, but you get to design them yourself. 

However, this also means that we've discontinued offering a free redesign with imports. Ultimately, having predesigned imports as the only option created a huge bottleneck, and also meant that our team was creating many designs that ultimately weren't used. Imports will still be offered to allow newbies to get into the game faster without having to wait on design approval, but we're going to be treating them as a more special thing going forward. You can still redesign adopted imports, but you'll have to snag a redesign token from the store instead of getting one for free!

The last note is that with the differences in how import transfers are handled on site, the no-transfer rule is now being enforced by using Lorekeeper settings to prevent Orphanage adoptions from being transferred or added to trades.  Once a ketucari has five pieces to their name, just send in a claim with proof of those pieces and one of our admins will lift the embargo so your ket's free to roam. 

Now, as a bonus for members that might have signed up and gotten their first ketucari elsewhere during the long wait, we're offering a gift from now until August 31st of either one Foundling Amulet (allows for another Orphanage adoption even if you've already got a ketucari) OR one Distress Beacon (can be turned in for either a wild or a limited semicustom). Please submit to this prompt to claim, and indicate which you'd like. One gift per player!
