Cockatiel

EXAMPLES

BASICS

  • Cockatiel creates a small colorful patch on the ketucari’s cheek and sometimes neck, much like cockatiel birds.
  • In your ketucari's genotype, cockatiel is denoted by the letters "nCtl" (heterozygous) or "CtlCtl" (homozygous).
  • In its heterozygous form, Cockatiel has a pass rate of 50%. Homozygous cockatiel has a 75% pass rate.

COLOR AND SHAPE

Cockatiel can be any color from the Lutino color range, or any highly saturated color (greater than 180 saturation).
If a saturated color, Cockatiel may gradient to second color. If taken from lutino colors it may also have a slight gradient.

A small sample of acceptable colors for Colored cockatiel

Within its range it may be any symmetrical shape, natural or unnatural. It may have soft or hard edges. It should be one solid marking and not be split into multiple sections unless shatter is also present.

Examples of acceptable cockatiel

The bottom middle image shows an example with stylized cutouts that would be considered acceptable

Examples of unacceptable cockatiel:

1: not a bright color, and not in Lutino's range

2: Cockatiel should not have holes in it unless empty is also present

3: Cockatiel should be one continuous marking unless shattered is present, and should not be split in two parts

RANGE

Cockatiel covers the cheek of the ketucari and can extend on to the neck. Cockatiel may cover its entire range, or appear anywhere in its range, but has a minimum size as show below in green. Blue shows the entirely of its range.

While Cockatiel is often circular or oval in shape, it does not have to be. It should have mostly smooth edges and no holes in the marking.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER MARKINGS

  • Cockatiel may alternatively combine with other colorful markings such as hued points and/or plumage to add even more colors in its range.
  • If cockatiel and Morpho are on the same geno, cockatiel may adopt Morpho’s color rules. This does not count as restricting Morpho to a gene.
  • On a dilute ketucari, “bright” cockatiel can be creamier colors, allowing for saturation to start at 50.
  • When shatter is present it can allow cockatiel to be broken up into sections
  • When empty is present it can allow a hole in the cockatiel marking, but when used in this way cockatiel should appear larger than its minimum size and avoid similarities to markings like stamped
