Basics

• Jovian makes a single marking on your ketucari display with a multicolored swirling pattern instead of its normal color rules.
• In your ketucari’s genotype, jovian is represented by “nJv” (heterozygous) or “JvJv” (homozygous)
• In its heterozygous form, jovian has a passrate of 25%. Homozygous jovian has a passrate of 50%.

Color and Shape

Jovian cannot display on its own, but instead modifies another marking-- within its range, the jmarking will display swirling patterns in lighter and darker shades of the base coat. These patterns are reminiscent of patterns found in gas giant clouds, marbled paper, or acrylic pour paintings.

Jovian's internal edge hardness can vary-- it can be hazy and indistinct, such as the sample above, or something more defined, like below-- but it should never be 100% hard-edged. Markings affected by Jovian should follow their existing edge hardness rules, but slight softening or texturing to match the internal pattern is allowed as long as the edge is still distinct (for hard markings) or blended out (for soft).

Jovian can optionally produce small “bubbles” of color within its range, similarly to the “cells” in an acrylic pour painting. The sample below shows cells and a few different styles usable for Jovian:

Jovian patterns must take shades that are either lighter or darker than the base coat, and cannot use more than five distinct tones in its range-- heavily blended jovian will give more leeway there.

Range 

Jovian can only be restricted to one of the markings below. It shares the range of the marking it’s restricted to.

Interaction with Other Markings

• Jovian may restrict the modified pattern to one of the following markings. If the ketucari does not have any of these markings, Jovian will not be visible. It can still be carried and passed onto this ketucari’s offspring, however.

1. Jovian and Segment can be applied to the same marking-- if this option is taken, then the color used for jovian must be picked from the segmented base coat.
2. If a ketucari has both Jovian and Haze, the markings can combine and produce an accent color that can be mixed into the colors used for jovian. However, no shades of the accent color can be used- all other colors must be shades of the base coat.
3. Jovian and Colorize can affect the same marking. If this option is taken, then Jovian can use shades of any two hues-- as long as those two hues are within an appropriate color shift for colorize. Lighter or darker tones of either hue can be used freely, as long as the total does not exceed the five-color limit. Dominant Colorize allows any two hues to be chosen, without them having to be legal color shifts.
4. Jovian and Morpho can affect the same marking, allowing up to three distinct hues to be used within Jovian, and shades of those hues to be used as long as the total does not exceed the five-color limit. Additionally, an iridescent or metallic effect can optionally be applied to any or all of the tones used in the marking. In addition, for layered markings, each section can take a different palette, similarly to unmodified Morpho.
5. Jovian and Inferno can affect the same marking. If this option is taken, then Jovian can use any shades of reds, oranges, and yellows (or blues and whites, for Blue Inferno). Lighter or darker tones of the inferno colors can be used freely, as long as the total does not exceed the five-color limit.
6. Jovian and Vapor can affect the same marking. If this option is taken, then Jovian can use up to three bright colors (any colors allowed in Vapor). Lighter or darker tones of the Vapor colors can be used freely, as long as the total does not exceed the five-color limit.

Accents

• For markings with multiple pieces (such as speckling, striping, strand, etc.) jovian can take different shades for different pieces of the marking, as long as the total number of shades remains within the limit.
• For markings with multiple differently-colored sections such as gecko or layered tar pit, jovian can optionally affect only one piece of the marking instead of the entire marking, at the designer’s discretion.
