Well
Examples
Well presents as a single hard-edged, medium-sized spot with features representing an element. This spot can optionally include a similarly themed border.
In your ketucari's genotype, well is denoted by the letters "nWel" (heterozygous) or "WelWel" (homozygous).
In its heterozygous form, well has a pass rate of 15%. Homozygous well has a 30% pass rate.
Range
Well can appear on any part of the body. There should typically be only one spot, however, if it appears on a limb, it may appear symmetrically on the opposite limb.
Here is the minimum and maximum sizes for a well:
Elements
Well can use any element that a Ketucari can be granted by way of Elemental Blessings. This element should fill an entire circle - there should be no cutouts showing the base coat behind it. If you need to use multiple aspects of an element (both clouds and sky, flowers and grass, etc) to make this work, this is fine! If using a border, the border should have the same elemental theme as the internal well spot.
Here are some examples of what you can depict for the well and its border. This is not all-inclusive.
Air
Well: Any sort of sky (reference fallstreak holes) except cloudy skies; Hurricane
Border: Clouds
Earth
Well: Stone, with or without crystals inlaid; Crystal (multiple types/colors of crystals are allowed to appear at the same time); Sand
Border: Soil (can be soft-edged); Stone; Sand (can be soft-edged)
Fire
Well: Fire; Magma; Molten metal
Border: Volcanic Rock; Smoke Clouds/Smog (must be dark); Embers
Ice
Well: Glacial moulins; Melt ponds; A sheet of ice or layer of snow
Border: Icicles; Snow (can be soft-edged)
Light
Well: A Sun; Any color of light, Pure White
Border: Rays of light (can be soft-edged); Lens flare; Ghosts
Lightning
Well: Ball Lightning; A stormy sky
Border: Storm Clouds (must be dark or at least a medium grey)
Plant
Well: Flowers; Shrubbery; Fruit; Fungi
Border: Vines; Leaves; Flowers; Fungi
Poison
Well: Ooze of any color; Spiderwebs
Border: Hardened ooze; Toxic spines
Shadow
Well: Space; The Void/Pure Black
Border: Shadowy aura (can be soft-edged); Shadowy tendrils; Ghosts
Water
Well: Water showing ripples or sea foam or other sorts of shine; Whirlpool
Border: Sand (Can be soft-edged); Bubbles; Seafoam
Interaction with Other Markings
Well appears over all markings. It can optionally appear over white marks.
Well can optionally appear unaltered by color mutations.
If a ketucari has both well and spotting, well and rust, or well and moonspots, they can combine to allow up to three well-sized spots. This cannot be increased in quantity by placing a spot on a limb.
Accents
Here are some small accents you can add to your designs to make them more unique!
You may place well on the right side of the Ketucari. This will, however, make it so it does not appear on the main import, due to well being an asymmetrical marking. You will be required to put a second import showing the right side of the Ketucari into design approval, and this import will be put in the images tab for your Ketucari!
Much like a Nature Scroll, dominant well allows use of two elements in one marking. This can present as one element in the well and one in the border, or perhaps both elements combining inside the well itself, like a flower (plant) dripping poison (poison), or a wave (water) catching fire at the end (fire).
Well cannot create additional spots on the horns or things like garoch plates - if a well is placed on a horn large enough to show it, it counts as the one well you may use. If the horns are a pair, you may use limb rules to put a well on the other horn. However, colors from inside the well and from its border can be used on horns and claws and the like.
Deep Modifier
Deep Well (+Deep, looking like nWel+Deep in the genotype) takes your original well and mirrors it on the opposite side of the Ketucari, making it appear as though the well passes all the way through to the other side, holding elemental material inside. The modifier has a 30% pass rate.
Deep Well is almost always symmetrical, and will generally appear exactly on the opposite side of the original well, though some mild “slanting” of the well is allowed. Please make sure this isn’t too extreme:
Deep Well should show the same element on both sides, with the same general presentation - the well doesn’t have to look exactly the same, however, if you had a fire well represented by magma with a border of volcanic rock on one end, it shouldn’t be a fiery inferno with a border of embers on the other end. The exception is if Well is dominant - the wells can be different in presentation or two entirely different elements if you want.
Unlike putting unmodified Well on the right side of a Ketucari, placing Deep Well on the right side of a Ketucari does not require an opposite side reference to be put through design approvals, as it would be visible on the left side as well.
