History
Hijau and her littermates Ghatri and Grute were born some time after the Machine War to the goddess Zarakali and her mate Aizak, who hailed from another planet. Growing up in Zara's expansive temple, Hijau had everything she wanted at her disposal. Her parents, though not neglectful, allowed she and her siblings a long leash with which to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Where her brother chose to pursue pleasure and people, Hijau chose a more spiritual path. From a young age, she was interested in the running of her mother's temple and helped see to it that Zara's domain was treated with the reverence and care she thought her mother deserved. Learning much from the staff, she developed a take-charge attitude and a sense of responsibility her siblings did not. Her association as the guardian goddess of temples was born from her efficient management of her home and eventually spread to include not only buildings, but sacred land and family shrines as well.
In recent times, Hijau's associations have even begun to include private homes, which are considered a family's very own "temple" in which to worship their deities. In many homes, it has become a tradition to first make offerings to Hijau before petitioning another god in the hopes that she will ensure the offerings are well-received. Her name is also invoked as spiritual protection for various sites during house blessings and, sometimes, exorcisms.
