"You don't understand." Nexus shook his head. "This wasn't in Antikutan!"
Imorys snorted. The two were camping in Terendum, sharing dubious drinks over a weak fire.
"Explain, then?"
Nexus took a deep breath.
"Look," he started. "This wasn't very long ago.
In fact, I believe we met the next month- you may remember be being more jumpy than my usual unflappable self."
Imorys snorted again.
"I had just begun searching for my tower," Nexus continued, undiscouraged, "And I was venturing into Antikutan daily, looking for my new home.
But after a long day of work, I was walking back to my camp, near where my tower is now... and I heard something walking behind me."
"Lots of things live in Terendum," Imorys laughed.
"IT WASN'T-" Nexus collected himself.
"It wasn't... a Terendum beast. As I've said.
It wasn't just footsteps I was hearing.
I heard its claws on trees, the same way Antikutan monstrosities rake their claws on stone.
Then I smelled it- the same putrid stench of revenants when I collect parts.
Then I felt it, cold breath breathing on my neck..."
Imorys had huddled over the fire, uncomfortable with Nexus's intensity.
"I felt that dead breath right on my frill..." Nexus brushed his hand along his neck. "...But when I turned around..."
Suddenly, claws landed on Imorys's shoulders, and they jumped about a foot in the air.
"It was just an Aconix, right?" Eldengar smirked at Nexus from where he'd snuck up on the Ryno.
"No!" Nexus howled with anguish and laughter as Imorys and Ed began bickering. "There wasn't anything there at all!"
