Real Life Examples

Basics

Bullet; White Flow is an unusual gene that modifies the base coat of an area of a ketucari. The effect is similar to two Chromata coats coexisting in a single design, rather than shifting between them. Flow also modifies the colors of markings on the ketucari.
Bullet; White In your ketucari’s genotype, flow is represented by “nFlw” (heterozygous) or “FlwFlw” (homozygous)
Bullet; White In its heterozygous form, flow has a passrate of 10%. Homozygous flow has a passrate of 35%

Color and shape

Flow creates a soft-edged irregular area of a modified base coat on a ketucari. This should be a single patch, not multiple disconnected areas (although that single area can have multiple distinct sections, as long as they are touching even a tiny bit).

Flow should be soft or textured, and can vary in opacity across its area with loops, whorls, or streaks within the marking-- think of the cloudy shapes you get if dripping ink into a glass of water.

Opal flowing Mist -- note the Strand uses the modified base coat and the Marble uses the base base coat.

The modified base coat is not pulled from the lineage, like Lintosi and Chimera, but chosen similarly to Chromata. In effect, this means that the coats available match the genes a ketucari has-- a tinted ketucari can shift to normal or tinted base coats, but a ketucari without tint cannot shift to a tinted base coat.

Color Groupings and Tiers

You may choose any basecoat within the grouping for the second color. This includes a different swatch (or even same swatch) of the same base coat.

Any given base coat may only shift to another accepted Tier or to another color within itself. In effect, a ketucari cannot switch to a basecoat if it does not have the genes for it (i.e. a dilute cannot become a tint or a vivid.)

ANY base coat may shift to Core.

Core

Charcoal, Brown, Bronze, Buff

Tints - Tier 1A

Olive, Stone, Rosewood, Lilac

Dilutes - Tier 1B

Pewter, Taupe, Cameo, White

Vivids - Tier 1C

Orange, Red, Yellow

Tinted Dilutes - Tier 2AB - May pull from 1A or 1B

Mist, Opal, Lavender, Ash

Tinted Vivids - Tier 2AC - May pull from 1A or 1C

Green, Blue, Mulberry, Violet

Blendeds - Tier 2BC - may pull from Tier 1B or 1C

Champagne, Blush, Luminary

Tinted Blendeds - Tier 3 - may pull from Any

Jade, Glacier, Orchid, Amethyst

Examples of how to use the above list:

1: Amethyst can shift to Jade, Champagne, Mulberry, Opal, Orange, White, Lilac, and Bronze

2: Champagne cannot shift to Amethyst, Mulberry, Opal, or Lilac, but can shift to Blush, Orange, White, and Bronze.

3: Mulberry cannot shift to Ameythyst, Champagne, Opal, or White, but can shift to Blue, Orange, Lilac, or Bronze

4: Opal cannot shift to Amethyst, Champagne, Mulberry, or Orange, but can shift to Lavender, White, Lilac or Bronze

5: Orange cannot shift to Amethyst, Champagne, Opal, Mulberry, White, or Lilac, but can shift to Yellow or Bronze

6: White cannot shift to Amethyst, Champagne, Opal, Mulberry, Orange, or Lilac, but can shift to Taupe or Bronze

7: Lilac can shift to Olive, Stone, Rosewood, Charcoal, Brown, Bronze, or Buff

Any lighter than or darker than marking on the ketucari can pull from either base coat, regardless of where it is located in relation to Flow. However, any marking, including ones that use any color, must retain the same coloration even if it crosses the area where Flow displays. (The exception is for markings that directly modify the base coat color and other markings, such as Intensify, Bleaching, and Roan.)

This ketucari has Flow and Hued Points-- the Hued Points use the same two colors in the Flow area and the normal base coat.

tick

This ketucari has Ray which crosses over the Flow area-- it chooses one base coat to draw its color on and does not change when it crosses between the coats. However, due to being a semi-transparent marking, some of the modified base coat does show through.

x

This is an unacceptable example where the color of the Ray changes to match the base coat it is currently on.

Range

Since flow can appear anywhere on the body, there is no minimum range diagram for it. It may not cover more than 50% of the body or less than 10%.

Interactions with Other Markings

Bullet; White Pangare, Sable, and Void can optionally change color when traveling over a Flow area, to allow for more cohesive countershading designs.
Bullet; White Intensify and Bleaching can alter the hue of a Flow area regardless of whether or not Vivid is present on the genotype.

Accents

Here are some small accents you can add to your designs to make them more unique!

Flow may have a subtle gradient and fade into the base coat.
