Character: Forever grumpy and sarcastic, Jan lives with the Saltos, a pair of dimension-hopping human twins who live at a nexus point between worlds. She acts as their housekeeper while they're away, overseeing their unruly menagerie of species from across the multiverse, most of them far less intelligent than she. She enjoys insulting the "dumb critters" though also laments wasting such witty put downs on creatures too stupid to comprehend them. Occasionally, her prey drive gets the better of her and she has to take a quick field trip to go kill something that won't upset her human companions. With Velukaelo just a dimensional door away, though, access to fresh game is never a problem, and the Saltos frequent end up with more animal carcasses lying around than they know what to do with.
