Character:

Baron Zahyir rides a high and mighty horse. A saddlebred to be exact. He runs an underground slave ring. But shhhh that's confidential information. To his friends, the upperclass, the rich, he is the utmost gentleman, and in all honesty, he isn't particularily cruel, but he is a capitalist. He does what it takes to survive, and what it takes, aparently, is cruelty, death, and a bit of bribe money.

Baron was orphaned and partially raised by a nomadic wanderer in the Jordskarn region, partially raised by Draien, the dg of Ferokk. She mainly taught him to fight, or rather, he learned stealth and fighting through watching her, eventually being so tenacious that she no longer minded his shadowy presence and eventually gave him a pointer or two. In his young mind, he felt as though she played a much bigger role in his upbringing than she did. He considers her his mother instead of either his birth mother or the nomad who took care of him as a young cub. Of course saying you were raised by a god is a much better story than saying you were an orphan fighting to survive the harsh wilderness of Aegrus. 

Baron is an unreliable narrator of his own story. He manipulates, lies, and even convinces himself the lies are true- as he did with the Draien  story,  He craves power and respect- things he never had as a cub, and his lies got him in the door for those things. He's also spent time as a young adult fighting in Gunagi's gladiator rings. Using the things he learned from Draien, he was able to survive and even win in the ring. Gunagi saw the ruthlessness and offered him a deal: His freedom from the ring in exchange for his loyalty and periodic delivery of new fighters for the ring. 

Baron took the deal and with his half truths as the son of a god, and having earned the patronage of a second god, quickly rose to power in the cities of Jordskarn, easily finding victims in fancy parties. Who would notice if a cook doesn't show up for work the next day, an orphan who goes missing off the street, or a guard who got too tipsy during the party and failed to show his face again? The common people were easy targets among the rich and powerful, and Baron worked his natural charms at the parties, eventually gaining his own powerful reputation, is own team, and becoming more and more open about his underground activities. 

He met his mate, they fell in love. She is just as ruthless as he, and supported his activities 100%. Unfortunately for their children, they are both homophobic and transphobic and their son, Zetch, was a target of constant abuse and neglect from his father's hands, before eventually leaving. Baron hardly remembers his son. Why would he care about a pathetic failure when he has two other strong and beautiful (straight) children? Baron is also incredibly hypocritical in this regard. One of his top leautinents is openly gay and Baron was thrilled when his son began to take an interest in said leutinent's daughter. It's only his own offspring that's not allowed to be anything less than "perfect" in his eyes. 

These days, Baron takes a more hands off approach to his activities. He runs his slave empire. He enjoys his family. He engages in politics anc social affairs. He sells those he's abducted to more than just Gunagi. He has a deep-seeded hatred for the god for trapping him in the ring and forcing him to work for him in the first place. He is still blind by his deal with Gunagi and would like nothing more than to get out from underneath the god's thumb. After all, he worked hard for his vast network of connections and the wealth he sits on, and he should be able to enjoy it as a free man.
