EMPTY

Examples

 Basics

:bulletwhite: Empty modifies other markings, causing them to display as either just an outline of the marking itself, or erasing away a large cutout inside of the marking
:bulletwhite: In your ketucari’s genotype, empty is denoted by “nEpt” (heterozygous) or “EptEpt” (homozygous)
:bulletwhite: In its heterozygous form, empty has a passrateof 45%. Homozygous empty has a 70% pass rate.

Color and Shape

Empty does not change the color of the original marking it modifies. The marking should still follow its original color and texture rules, unless it is also being modified by another marking such as segment or colorize. Only one marking on a Ketucari may be modified by Empty. If there are no markings present that Empty can be restricted to then it will not show up on the Ketucari.

There are two ways to approach Empty. It can display as a large cutout erased away from a marking, allowing the base color and/or any markings underneath to show through the middle of the marking. Alternatively it can simply appear as an outline of the original marking where the middle appears to not be filled in.

The outline does not need to appear symmetrical and stylization of the edges is optional. Both external and internal edges should match the original marking rules: for example, in a hard-edged marking like somatic, the internal and external edge should both appear hard. In a soft-edged marking like sable, both edges should appear soft.

Alternatively, empty can appear as a single large cutout erased away from the inside of a marking. This cutout may be stylized and does not need to be symmetrical. The edges of both the inside and outside of the marking should still follow the original texture rules.

Examples:

This ketucari shows empty restricted to somatic, using the outline presentation:

This is the same Ketucari if the empty marking was not present:

This example of empty is locked to  mantle and is the thinnest an outline is allowed to be. The line down the spine is an optional stylization since it is assumed the marking continues on the other side.

This is an example of a soft edged outline where empty is locked to sable. Note this example also showcases that the outline can be varying thicknesses as well.

This ketucari shows a soft-edged cutout. In larger markings it is easier to show a single cutout in the marking:

This ketucari shows a hard-edged cutout. The majority of the marking appears normally, but the markings underneath can show through in the cutout.

Range

Empty can only be restricted to one of the markings listed below. It shares the range of the marking it is restricted to.

When using the outline presentation, the green line is the thinnest an empty outline should appear.

If using the cutout method, the green spot below is the smallest an empty cutout should appear inside a marking. So long as no part of the marking is thinner than the outline example above, the cutout can be as large as desired.

Some markings may not be large enough to allow for a single cutout, such as acid or ray. If a marking is not large enough to display a cutout, it must present as an outline.

Interaction With Other Markings

:bulletwhite: All markings can be layered over or under Empty areas.
:bulletwhite: Empty may affect the shape of one of the following markings. If the ketucari doesn’t have any of these markings, Empty will not be visible. It can still be carried and passed onto this ketucari’s offspring however.

:bulletwhite: Empty and Colorize or Segment can affect the same marking if it is in both interaction lists. If this option is taken, then the color rules will follow either Colorize or Segment's depending on which is also affecting the marking. Only one marking may be affected by Empty regardless of how many markings may be affected by dom colorize, however.

Accents

Here are some small accents you can add to your designs to make them more unique!

:bulletwhite:  Sections of the outline may appear in different thicknesses
(Insert green wanderer)
:bulletwhite:  Optionally, the base color may show through the Empty area without any other markings present, even if there are markings layered under the gene that Empty is affecting.
