It had been loyal once. So very loyal, so devoted to its gods. It had wanted nothing more than to serve them.
And then it fell in love. So very very in love. Not blindly, no. Nightshade saw the writing on the wall. It tried to talk to its beloved, to cool the flames of envy that clawed its dear friend's throat. Warned him. Begged and pleaded for him to see reason.

Their gods, the ones it had served so loyally for so long, however, did not punish Eden directly.
Nightshade saw where their wrath was to be directed too late to react.

Its body was shattered. Broken into shapes unrecognizeable, and its soul was sent crashing into Velukaelo to nurish the soil in the wake of a Raid.

Unfortuantely for them, such a heavy handed correction of the scales did not have the desired effect. Nightshade's consciousness stained the soil. Turned it rotten and foul, its anger and bitterness and grief at the betrayal and misplaced punishment permeated into every plant, every creature.
It had served harvest gods, after all. It had served balance.

And someone that Nightshade could trust was looking for it.
